Severe acne not only causes scars on the skin, but can leave big emotional scars too; this is especially true when it affects adolescents, who are going through a rough patch in their lives. And unfortunately this disease affects teenagers much more often than adults, who are emotionally better equipped to deal with the condition.

Some people get acne, while others who happen to have exactly the same skin type and are of exactly the same age don’t, the reasons why this happens aren’t clear. Still, it is believed that raging hormones, bacteria and oily skin are the main factors that contribute the most to the worsening of the condition. The process starts with oils blocking the skin pores; this provides environment, which is ideal for bacteria to grow; the chemicals that this bacteria produces cause inflammation and attract white blood cells. Most acne cases are easy to manage and although they may not be completely cured, in such cases even some of the over the counter products will help. Still, if the acne is severe it can appear not only on the face, but on the back, chest and shoulders; such cases are stubborn and require the use of powerful medication, which quite often is related to adverse side effects.

One such drug is Isotretinoin, sold under the trade name Roaccutane in the UK and as Accutane in the US. Other trade names are used in the different countries and the product is often referred to as generic Accutane, especially if sold online. Before saying any more about this medication, let’s clear the difference between generic Accutane and Accutane. The brand name drugs are typically sold by one pharmaceutical company, who either has developed the drug or has purchased a license that allows that company to market it. On the other part the generic pills are sold by companies, who produce the same product, using the same ingredients, but have to market it under a different trade name. Usually, the generic drug is much cheaper than the brand-name one, while working just as well.

As already mentioned, Accutane is very powerful and can cause adverse side effects, which is why it is strictly a prescription drug. Once prescribed, though, it can be ordered online and the treatment commenced. As with other similar medication, the treatment course takes certain time and most patients don’t see improvements right away and quite often the acne starts to clear after the third month. However, this medication really works and most researchers believe that its success rate is about 80%. If you have a severe acne or have not responded well to other forms of treatment, you should not start a cycle of Isotretinoin without visiting a qualified dermatologist!

Even though some dermatologists doubt the direct link between acne and a person’s diet, we encourage you to introduce more vegetables and fruits in your diet and exercise at least four times a week. This should dramatically speed up the healing process and help you get beautiful skin.
